Aikido Northway Welcomes
Christopher Mulligan Sensei!

Our first major seminar brought together members and visiting practitioners for four classes of focused training at Siena University.

Aikido Northway was honored to host Christopher Mulligan Sensei, 7th Dan Shihan and senior instructor at Sandokai Aikido Kyoto, for a special seminar at Siena University on August 7–9.

Over four classes, Mulligan Sensei led participants through taijutsu, bokken, and jo practice, emphasizing careful movement, technical precision, and fresh ways of approaching familiar principles. The seminar brought together Aikido Northway members and visiting practitioners for a weekend of focused training and exchange.

We are especially grateful to Mulligan Sensei for traveling from Japan to teach us and for sharing his experience so generously. His visit also marked an important milestone for Aikido Northway as our first major seminar since the dojo’s founding.

Participants especially appreciated "the high level of instruction forcing you to get outside your comfort zone and adopt a new perspective."

"[It was] good to work with partners from other dojos and be exposed to different training methods," said another participant.

The seminar was held at Mulligan Sensei's alma mater, Siena University, where Cooper sensei is a member of the History Faculty

Thank you to everyone who trained with us, visited, helped with setup and organization, and contributed to making the weekend possible. We look forward to continuing to create opportunities for serious training, regional exchange, and connection with the wider Aikido community!
